SHURA Energy Transition Center has implemented a simplified and web-based simulation of the Turkish electricity system that can be used interactively by all stakeholders. It should be noted that the simulation does not either represent the actual state of the Turkish electricity system or include real data. The purpose of this simulation is to let users experience how a simplified electrical system works instantly via the use of an innovative and entertaining application.
Power systems stand as the backbone for economy-wide decarbonisation and represent the key elements in achieving the net-zero emissions targets. In line with this target of reaching the 2053 net-zero emissions, it is of importance for Türkiye to develop the transmission gridlines concurrently with the integration of renewables into the electricity system to allow for the highest levels of integration.
The infrastructure of the Turkish electricity transmission grid is strong which accommodates various power generation technologies. The main objective is to balance supply and demand in the electricity system instantly. In the upcoming years, increasing the system flexibility will be crucial to increase the level of solar and wind energy integration into the system and sturdy operation of the transmission grid. Among the factors contributing at most to the system security and stability are; energy storage, demand-side participation, transmission and distribution grid expansions, increased interconnection capacities, and positioning of the power plants close to where electricity is consumed. A holistic approach, which considers all of these factors, is required to operate the Turkish electricity system instantaneously.
In this direction, SHURA Energy Transition Center has implemented a simplified and web-based simulation of the Turkish electricity system that can be used interactively by all stakeholders. It should be noted that the simulation does not either represent the actual state of the Turkish electricity system or include real data. The purpose of this simulation is to let users experience how a simplified electrical system works instantly via the use of an innovative and entertaining application.
With “SHURA Power Flow Simulator”, users can interactively alter the electricity supply and demand, and observe possible grid impacts by establishing a cause-effect relation. Users can explore the prepared scenarios within the “Explore” menu or develop alternative scenarios via the “expert” mode. Users can experience the positive impact of integrating renewable energy sources via adapting a system-oriented approach by trying out the storyline in the “Play” mode.
Hope you will enjoy!
