SHURA has published three comprehensive studies on renewable hydrogen to date. The study titled “Priority Areas for National Hydrogen Strategy for Türkiye’”, published in February 2021, set out the strategic priorities required to unlock Türkiye’s renewable hydrogen potential. The report “Techno-Economic Study of Türkiye’s Production and Export Potential for Green Hydrogen”, published in December 2021, examined the domestic use and export potential of renewable hydrogen through a 2050 lens. The study “Renewable Hydrogen in Türkiye’s Decarbonisation Path: Priority Application Areas and Policy Recommendations”, published in February 2025, assesses the use of renewable hydrogen in end-use sectors and its economic feasibility, based on sectoral prioritisation and cost-benefit analyses.
Building on this body of work, the new study is designed as a complementary contribution to SHURA’s first three renewable hydrogen reports. It analyses the key challenges and opportunities Türkiye faces both nationally and internationally in developing a renewable hydrogen ecosystem under a set of thematic headings, and aims to provide an analytical framework to inform policy and academic discussions.
