‘While important steps have been taken towards decarbonization with the use of renewable energy in electricity production in Turkey, energy-intensive end-user sectors such as industry, housing and transportation are still heavily dependent on fossil fuels. Thanks to the efficiency provided in end-user sectors and the substitution of fossil fuels used with zero-emission electricity, it is possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by energy consumption. The report “Electrification of the Housing and Industrial Sector in Turkey” of the SHURA Energy Transformation Center examines the electrification potential of the housing and industrial sector, the cost-benefit analysis of electrification and the necessary policies for electrification in the context of the efficiency to be achieved in the end-user sectors and the substitution of fossil fuels to be used with zero-emission electricity in accordance with Turkey’s net-zero carbon emission target for 2053.’
