This mechanism aims to prevent\u00a0carbon leakage, where carbon-intensive production is relocated abroad to evade carbon taxation, thereby shifting emissions elsewhere.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s decarbonization efforts, carbon pricing stands as one of the most critical medium-to long-term policy priorities.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Given CBAM\u2019s implications, maintaining and strengthening trade with the\u00a0EU\u2014T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s largest trading partner\u2014has gained heightened importance. However, beyond mere adaptation to CBAM to protect EU trade, T\u00fcrkiye must adopt a\u00a0comprehensive carbon pricing framework\u00a0aligned with its\u00a02053 net-zero target. This framework should extend beyond CBAM and other countries\u2019 practices to cover the entire economy.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prepared by the\u00a0SHURA Energy Transition Center, this study assesses the\u00a0quantitative and qualitative impacts\u00a0of CBAM on T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s economy. Focusing on the\u00a0iron and steel, cement, aluminum, and fertilizer sectors\u00a0(covered in CBAM\u2019s first phase), the study conducts a\u00a0cost-benefit-based impact analysis.
