Meltem Bayraktar

Meltem Bayraktar has been serving as the Senior Manager of the Urban Efficiency and Climate Program at WRI Turkey since 2016. In this role, she coordinates projects that contribute to shaping Turkey’s climate policies and leads efforts on energy efficiency and urban sustainability.

Prior to joining WRI Turkey, Meltem carried out extensive technical work in various organizations within the construction sector, focusing on energy-efficient building design, building performance modelling, energy analysis, thermal and visual comfort in buildings, and green building consultancy. She has also worked as a building sector consultant for organizations such as the United Nations Development Program, the World Bank, and the French Development Agency. Currently, she serves as the coordinator of the Turkey Sustainable Buildings Network.

In 2015, Meltem earned a PhD in architecture and energy from both Politecnico di Torino and Istanbul Technical University, where she pursued her doctoral studies concurrently. She completed her master’s degree at Istanbul Technical University in the Energy Science and Technologies Program, during which she also worked as a visiting researcher at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences, focusing on energy modeling techniques. Meltem completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. During her academic career, she was awarded the Marie Curie scholarship in 2008, which allowed her to work on regional-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy integration within the CITYNET Research Network in Italy.
